Five Reasons To Replace Your Windows
A Draft. Do you feel a draft along the edges of your windows or beneath your window sill, even when they are shut?
This may be caused by poor installation, faulty window seals, cracked wood frames and more. A drafty window can drastically affect the overall temperature of your home, causing your heating or cooling system to work harder to keep up with the fluctuating temperature. This is the first sign it may be time to replace your windows.
Noise. Can you hear street and traffic noise through your windows? If your windows are not keeping noise pollution to a minimum, they may either have lost their seal or worse, were made poorly, to begin with. At American Made Windows, we recommend double or triple-pane glass windows insulated with Argon or Krypton gas. These windows can greatly decrease outdoor noise, which is especially helpful if you live in a busy neighborhood or close to a highway.
Bad Window Frames. If your wooden window frames are soft to the touch or have splinters and chips, they are more than likely that beyond repair. Soft wood indicates rot, usually caused by water infiltration. Aluminum and vinyl construction windows will last a lifetime and are impervious to water damage.
Frosted Glass. If you notice that your windows are fogged up between the layers of glass, it means the seals have failed. This allows the gas to escape and moisture has found its way between the glass panes. Once that seals fail, any insulating properties for temperature and sound the window may have had, is gone.
Difficulty Operating Your Windows. Windows that may not have been installed correctly in the first place, develop balance issues over time. If your windows are a challenge to open and close, this may be the case. Windows that are oxidized or rotting can also be difficult to open, close or lock. If your windows do not close properly, are unable to lock them, this impacts the safety of your home.
